Educational Illustration & Disaster Preparedness Guide for Children
This project is an educational guide designed to teach elementary school children how to understand and respond to floods. Developed by the House of Infographics for the World Health Organization, it utilizes child-friendly illustrations and simple narratives to introduce natural disaster awareness in a calm, accessible, and age-appropriate manner.
The guide explains what floods are, why they occur, and how they impact daily life, using visual storytelling rather than technical language. Step-by-step scenarios help children recognize warning signs, understand safe behaviors, and learn what to do before, during, and after a flood, supporting early preparedness without creating fear.
Bright, balanced colors and soft character illustrations are intentionally chosen to maintain attention and emotional safety. Blue is used to represent water and flooding, while warm accent colors highlight important actions and safety tips. Clear visual hierarchy and consistent iconography help children follow the content easily and remember key messages.
As an educational tool for disaster preparedness, the project empowers children with knowledge while supporting teachers, parents, and communities. It demonstrates how thoughtful illustration and infographic design can transform critical safety information into engaging learning material, fostering awareness, confidence, and resilience from an early age.
