In Indonesia, numerous tribes express their cultural values and beliefs through sacred objects such as house ornaments, statues, and accessories. Drawing inspiration from the Batak mythological house ornament called Gorga, which symbolizes the lion as a powerful guardian, a typeface was created to embody the key characteristics of Gorga.
The typeface was converted to a True Type Font (.ttf), with each character initially sketched and traced in Adobe Illustrator. At first, the characters were designed without a center line, but this detail was later added to more accurately reflect the intricate features of the actual Gorga ornament.
Using Fontlab, the vector typeface was transformed into a functional font format. While it was technically suitable for typing long paragraphs, the bold characters were most effective when used for titles, headers, and other short text applications.
