Sulawesi is renowned not only as an underwater paradise for tourists but also as the home of some of Indonesia’s finest traditional seafood cuisines. While the island is celebrated for its natural beauty, its culinary treasures remain relatively undiscovered. To bring Sulawesi's rich culinary heritage to the world, an educational book titled *Sulawesian Seafood: A Tale of Taste* was created.
Food photography served as the initial inspiration, a technique typically associated with cookbooks. However, rather than merely describing recipes, the book aims to tell a captivating story that showcases the cultural and culinary richness of Sulawesi's seafood traditions.
To capture the beauty of the dishes served, a mixed media approach was used, combining air-dry clay and paint. This technique allows the reader to experience the chef's masterpiece more tangibly, bridging the gap that traditional senses cannot. While it's challenging to fully appreciate the taste and aroma of the cuisine without experiencing it firsthand, these detailed, tactile illustrations offer a unique way to bring the flavors to life.
